Cooking is easier with better ingredients.

Arranging Music is easier when we start with better material.

Most composers and artists tell me that they struggle with "ARRANGEMENT."

But 90% of their problems can be solved by addressing the source material they're trying to "arrange" FIRST.

Once we understand how to make better ingredients that complement each other, the entire process starts to open up.

I made this mini course to show you how I come up with musical ideas that can be more easily developed. Ideas that almost beg to be arranged into finished pieces of music.

The concepts I show you here are the very same ones that have been invaluable to me throughout my career. They've provided me with an endless source of inspiration for nearly two decades.

More concise and less of a financial commitment than my flagship Composition Course, this mini course will get you started on the path to finishing more music you're really proud of.

I hope you find these concepts as helpful as I have in clarifying the process of writing music.

We'll make this piece together.⬇️

I'll walk you through each decision and explain WHY I make them. You'll get to see how the concepts I teach on YouTube and my other courses are applied to take a simple musical idea and transform it into a cohesive piece of music.

A straightforward, clear look at the process of writing music.

I'll walk you through a brand new piece I've written from initial idea to finished recording.

You can finish the entire mini course in about an hour, but walk away with a clearer understanding of what the process of composition is really about.

There's a lot packed into that hour, so it's something you can continue coming back to for years to come.

If you like any of my music or the way I think about music based on what you've seen from my YouTube channel, there's a GREAT chance you'll enjoy this.

Is it right for you?

Do I need to have an advanced knowledge of music theory to benefit from this course?

No. While more knowledge of a few basic theory concepts certainly won't hurt, I've attempted to make this as accessible to musicians of all backgrounds as possible.

Rather than teaching arbitrary "rules," I'll explain WHY those guidelines are in place and what we can learn from them and apply in our own music.

To put it plainly, NO, you don't need an extensive theory background to gain valuable insights from this course. However, you will gain the MOST from it if you do have some knowledge of the fundamentals.

What's actually in this course?

Concise but detailed video tutorials that demonstrate the creation of musical ideas that beg to be developed and arranged.

I'll walk you through the process from inception of the idea to development into a completed track.

Are there other resources included besides the videos?

Yes. I've included downloads for both my eBooks on Composition and Harmony, downloadable MIDI files for the track we make together, as well as notated examples to accompany the videos. This way, you can have a visual representation of what you're hearing regardless of whether you read music or not.

With the MIDI files, you can drag this example into your own DAW and experiment with the ideas we discuss immediately.

You'll also receive the first video in my flagship course, Composition Concepts for Artists as a bonus gift.

What if English isn't my first language?

Several international students in my other courses have suggested that I include transcripts of the course videos so they can auto-translate them into their own language.

Great idea! Let's do it.

I'm including those transcripts for you in this mini course (and will be adding them to my full courses soon as well).

"From my first time working with Nathan, the rapport was instant. I really appreciate how genuine he is, and how completely honest his opinions are when it comes to working on music. We've collaborated on several projects, and he does not stop until the job is done. I've learned a great deal working with him, and would recommend him to anyone."

- BP Moore, recording artist/composer

"When I finished my vocal Album, and needed a producer and second set of ears I could trust, my first thought was Nathan, because of his immense experience in both classical and ambient directions.

Nathan brought a deeper sound quality, more emphasis and light or darkness to the character of the music that was already there. He gave it a new dimension and made the pieces have a third dimension; he enabled each piece to achieve its best quality."

- Maire Awadis, pianist, recording artist, composer
